Jackie: It's the first week of December which means one thing. Yes, for this week's podcastsinenglish.com we're talking about Christmas shopping. Now Richard, you went shopping yesterday.
Richard: Yes, yes, I did.
Jackie: And what did you get your mum?
Richard: Oh, my mum, I got her a box of chocolates.
Jackie: Oh right, ok. What kind of chocolates were they?
Richard: They're actually very special chocolates. Handmade, expensive chocolates. Milk chocolates. She likes chocolates, so um… I think they're really nice.
Jackie: Because when we lived in um… when we lived in Asia um… you bought her some pyjamas, didn't you?
Richard: Well, she loved the silk pyjamas. I bought her two or three pairs of those which she absolutely loved but um… can't buy them here so um… it had to be the chocolates.
Jackie: Ok. What about your sister?
Richard: Sister, Sue, she’s got socks.
Jackie: Oh, that sounds very boring.
Richard: No, these are really nice as well. Lovely, thick, woolly, stripy socks, yellow and green. She… she's a bit of a couch potato...
Jackie: She likes sitting on the… on the sofa and watching the TV.
Richard: Yes, she does and these are indoor socks so they'll keep her feet nice and warm as she watches the telly.
Jackie: Fantastic. Now what about er… Kevin, her husband?
Richard: Right, well I know that my sister has bought him a brand new digital camera.
Jackie: Hmm, lucky Kevin.
Richard: Yes, very nice it is. So, to go with that, I've bought him a photography book. Erm… it's full of photo ideas and how to take better pictures with his new camera.
Jackie: Oh, lucky… lucky Kevin, he's going to have a nice Christmas. Um… ok, so what about um… what about your nephew?
Richard: My nephew, Jack. Now he likes the outdoors. He's very sporty so um… what I've got for him… oh also in England now it's been very cold, hasn't it?
Jackie: So, lots of snow…
Jackie: You haven't got him some skis?
Richard: No, no, I haven't got him skis, I've got him a wooden sledge.
Jackie: Oh, ok.
Richard: So, a wooden sledge for… for going down the mountain on. Um… and it's foldable, so he can fold it up and it packs very small.
Jackie: So put it away when the snow disappears.
Richard: Yes
Jackie: That sounds very good. And then finally, Richard, what did you get
your niece?
Richard: My niece, Joanna. Now she loves gardening. So I was thinking of getting her something for the garden. Maybe some plants or… or um… ornaments or something like that. But in the end I got her an outdoor, garden lamp.
Jackie: A lamp?
Richard: Yes. It's one of those special lamps, a solar lamp.
Jackie: Ok. So the sun is shining during the day, which means it comes on at night.
Richard: Exactly, yes, so I think that will look good in her garden.
Jackie: Probably better for the summer.
Richard: Yes, maybe. But um… I think she'll like it.
Jackie: And what about me, Richard? What have you got me?
Richard: You'll just have to wait until Christmas morning for that.
Jackie: Oh
