- And explain why you want to replace itTo answer to this question, the thing that pops up in my mind is my old mobile phone that I have wished to replace for such a long time.
My phone is a present of my mother after I passed the university entrance exam with flying colors and struggled with some English exercises at the fresh year. I said to my mother and then she decided to take me to an electric store and asked me to pick the latest model. She hoped this gadget help me gradually master this language thanks to the applications on it.
It is a smart phone called Iphone 4, which was a quite state-of-the-art device at that time. It is in black, has a 4 inch touch screen and a home button and is quite portable to me. Thanks to this phone, I could widen my lexical resources because there were a huge number of learning applications which come in handy. I found its definition and pronunciation through some offline dictionaries like T-flat or Oxford. It was also the unique way for me to entertain myself after hard-studying days at school.
But you know, wear and tear is an indispensable theory with all objects and my phone is not an exception. It processes information slower and becomes outdated now. Therefore, I really want to replace it by a new phone with a larger screen to watch movies or type messages easier. Furthermore, the alternative phone should also have a higher memory capacity for me to store all images and videos I take or record. That’s all I need.
All in all, I think I will start living on a tight budget from now on and save money for a better phone as soon as possible.
1. Nowadays, people often replace their mobile phones although the current one is still
good, what do you think?
As far as I am concerned, due to improved living standards and technology, it’s inevitable for consumers to endlessly desire better products, especially their mobile phones, which now play an indispensable part in their life. Even though it is a understandable tendency, I consider it as a negative development because of possible strains this consumerism may put on the environment when more natural resources are exploited to produce more products, and more waste is disposed of.

2. Many people tend to replace things sooner than others, what do you think?
In my opinion, it is a negative development from both personal and societal perspectives. Firstly, in terms of individuals, at first they may feel contented when their need is fulfilled, but if they keep changing their stuff, this is be a huge waste of money which otherwise would be saved. And when they are short of money to replace stuff with better ones, this will be really uncomfortable to them. As regards the whole society, this behaviour promotes consumerism, which may lead to high pressure on the environment in light of the depletion of natural resources exploited and the increasing amount of waste released.

3. Did your parents replace things in the past?
I don’t think so because both my parents are nostalgic people, who have a wistful desire to return to their past, but you know, it is impossible. Due to this sentimentality, they tend to keep all the old stuff intact and never throw them away or replace them. For example, my mum has some heirlooms that were passed on to her from our great-great-fathers and until now, they are still kept carefully in her drawer, as the most valuable things of her life.

4. What are the advantages of traditional shops?
In my opinion, conventional stores can bring about a great number of benefits to consumers. The first pro is that I can try on clothes to make sure that they fit me, and they are from authentic material and of high quality. In this way, the risk of online fraud where some sellers often exaggerate about the quality of their products or use inferior material
to make them. Another benefit is I can get what I want immediately without having to wait for them to be shipped. In addition, going shopping to me is like “Kill two birds with one stone” because I can combine walking and shopping for favorite things at the same time.

To be honest, I am much more into conventional than online shopping, even though I am a technophile at the same time. Despite the fact that Internet shopping can help its users to save time and money that otherwise would be spent on gas or petrol, simultaneously avoid crazy traffic jam, I am still in favor of traditional shops in light of its greater benefits. One of those is that the risk of being deceived into buying inferior goods is removed, and I can also can test the products before pulling the trigger.

There is high possibility that online shopping will dominate in the near future as I have seen so many customers who are either so pre-occupied with their work or study that they have to rely on the Internet to purchase their daily necessities, or their lifestyles are too sedentary to go to stores themselves. So, it is likely that online shopping will gaining increasing popularity in years to come.

This is such a hard question as off the top of my head, I just can’t think of any other forms of shopping other than traditional and cyber shopping. I think they will maintain their prevalence in years to come, and one will never totally replace the other because it’s a matter of taste. I guess if there is a new kind of shopping appearing, it would be an upgraded and luxurious version of conventional shopping, like customers can be so wealthy that they can use their own airplane to shop around the world.
