You should say:
I’m going to talk about the time when I received cash as a gift. It was my wedding that took place 2 years ago.
On that special day, all my friends, colleagues and relatives (who were invited to the ceremony) gave me money in red envelopes. In particular, immediate family like my grandparents, brothers and sisters even gave me larger amount of money and, in some cases, golden rings.
As for the reasons why people gave me cash gift instead of other presents, in Vietnam, money is considered to be the symbol of prosperity, health, and happiness. In addition to that, practically, giving cash gift for newlyweds is a great way to help the new couple and their families cover the huge cost of wedding.
Moving on to the next point which is how I received the cash. Well, some people directly gave me the envelopes containing money in the wedding venue. Meanwhile, others left their envelopes in a money box that was placed in the reception area. After all, I have to say that I really felt grateful for the gift. You know, it helped to pay for the wedding food, drinks, and wedding venue rental. What’s more, it also helped me and my husband to get started with our new journey in life.
PART 3
1. When do children start feeling interested in money?
To be honest, my knowledge about kids is quite limited as I am already a mature adult. But if you ask me, I think children’s interest in material possessions starts when their parents tell them about that. It is quite common that children, when going to shopping centers or supermarkets with their parents, are often curious about why their parents have to pay for the stuffs. Then, their parents often tell them about the concept of money, arousing children’s interest in money and its value.
2. Are all children interested in money because they want to buy their own stuff?
This is such a difficult question, so I just cannot say for sure whether all children care for money because of their appetite for their own things, but I think this is the case most of the time. I have caught sight of many children pestering their parents to buy things like stuffed bears or snacks for them in shopping centers, so yeah, in most cases, children care for money mostly because they want something to be purchased for them.
3. Why do children want to have money instead of asking parents for it?
In my opinion, there are several explanations for this, and I think the main reason is some parents are quite strict, and they often do not give their offspring pocket money with the fear that their children would be spoilt or spend money impulsively. This makes children prefer making their own money or asking from others instead of parents.
4. Should children be given money as a reward when they do something?
Even though it is quite a common way that most parents often apply to encourage their children to accomplish something, I am not in favour of it. This idea can work sometimes, but at the same time it also installs in children’s mind the thought that they will only try if their parents give them some money, while it’s better to make it clear that studying or doing exercise is for the sake of themselves.
5. In VN, people prefer using cash or credit card? Why?
As far as I know, we used to rely on cash for everyday payments, but in the last three years, Vietnamese society has been modernized with the omni-presence of ATMs everywhere. This has resulted in a megatrend towards using credit card, and cash is only used in some micropayment at markets or grocery stores. In other words, credit card has become a dominant method of payment in today’s society.
