These two charts show energy sources in the UK and the USA in 2000 and 2006. In both years unrenewable sources provide the vast majority of energy in both countries.
The UK and USA derive their energy from different sources. The UK is very dependent on gas whereas the USA uses mainly oil. Both countries are, however. dependent on oil and this has become more so over the ten year period. with figures in the UK rising from 28% to 30% and in the USA from 37% to 40%. The UK has significantly reduced its dependence on coal, contributing only 14% in 2006. and increasingly used natural gas. The USA follows a similar pattern but not to the same degree.
