The Christmas Truce

The Christmas Truce The poignant moment during the First World War when, on Christmas Day in 1914, soldiers from both sides put down their guns, shook hands and discovered they had more in common with each other than with their leaders. The spontaneous act of peace lasted until New Year's Day and those in high command were powerless to stop it.
